The Soldiers, Sailors Airmen and Families Association, SSAFA, is the oldest UK military charity and has been helping the forces for over 130 years. Their latest Annual Short Breaks scheme sets out to further support military families by offering fun, adventurous holidays for families where a child has an additional need or disability.

SSAFA are offering several different week long getaways; some provide a break specifically for siblings whilst others offer a holiday for the whole family. Children will be able to get involved in exciting new experiences including horse riding, kayaking, quad biking and much more.

Frances Robinson, SSAFA Short Breaks Leader said:

“We’re really excited about this year’s Short Breaks. SSAFA is opening up its break for children with an additional need to their whole family after the success of last year giving parents the opportunity to share in their children’s achievements. We are also trialling a new, more central location for this year’s break for siblings and young carers at Kingswood, Staffordshire.

The Short Breaks are an invaluable opportunity for young people to challenge themselves and have fun in a safe, supported environment. It is also an incredibly rewarding experience for those of us who support them.”

How can you get involved?

SSAFA are taking bookings now for these breaks! Bookings are available for reservists and currently serving families where a child in the family has an additional need or disability. It is advised that recent veterans can apply but that priority will be given to serving families or reservists.

To apply for these breaks, contact Hannah Wiltshire on or call 0207 463 9275.
