Over 100 aircraft will be taking part  in a flypast over Buckingham Palace at 13:00 today.  Included in the flypast will be the new F-35 fighter jet that was unveiled earlier last month.

Several members of the royal family will be attending various events across the country to celebrate.

The armada will be lead by nine helicopters and will be finished by the Red Arrows. Many historic aircraft will be joining them to commemorate the Battle of Britain.

Air-Vice Marshal Gerry Mayhew, who is the senior officer responsible for the flypast,  said, “Today is the centrepiece of the events marking the RAF’s 100th year. It is a great opportunity to look back and really celebrate our past, but to look forward is a really important thing for us as well.”
