With this year’s Brigade of Bhela and the Nepal Cup just around the corner, we thought that we could give you the low down on the festival.
About the Nepal Cup
The Nepal Cup is a football competition that is contested between the ten units of the Brigade of Gurkhas. The pool games, quarter and semi final stages are all played at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the the final and Bhela festival is held in Aldershot. It takes place on the 7th July at the end of Brigade Week.
Brigade Week Festivities
Brigade Week is the first week of July and is important in the Gurkha calendar as the 1st July marks the Royal Gurkha Rifles regimental birthday. The week includes plenty of celebrations and a dinner night. The week culminates with the Bhela Festival and Nepal and Kathmandu Cup competitions, of which over 10,000 current and retired Gurkhas and their families attend.
Exciting Bhela Festival Activities
The Brigade Bhela or Festival will include various Gurkha and English food stalls in particular the famous and delicious Gurkha bart, a traditional curry dish. There will also be Nepalese dancers and various charity and military activity stalls.
This year Trinity Insurance Services Limited are supporters of the Bhela Festival and will be running a stand over the weekend.
