Black Friday is creeping up on us all, and with just 3 days to go a lot of big UK retailers are starting their sales early this year – if you have your eye on something, here’s how to make sure you get the best deal.

How to get the best deals this Black Friday

  • Have a clear idea of what you are looking for

If you want to grab a bargain during the Black Friday sale, it’s important to have a clear idea of what you are looking for. Each year more and more big brands get involved in Black Friday, and this creates an overwhelming number of offers across various goods available both online and instore. If you have no idea what you are after, you’ll waste time browsing and some of the best discounts may well run out of stock. Plus, with all the offers available, it’s easy to get carried away and end up buying something you don’t really want!

  • Do your research

It’s important to do your research before Black Friday so that you know whether you are really getting a good deal when prices get released, especially if you are buying a high value item. Last year, the consumer group ‘Which?’ looked at prices over a 12 month period which covered before, during and after Black Friday – they found that prices were up to 60% cheaper at other times during the year. Make sure you are familiar with the kind of price you are expecting to pay for an item, and compare this with the offer available on Black Friday.

  • Cashback

If you’re planning a spend up on Black Friday, it’s worth checking whether you could earn any cashback through your purchases. Many debit or credit cards offer cashback on purchases, and websites including Quidco and Topcashback give cashback when you shop online with a number of retailers.

  • Shop early

If you’ve decided to brave the madness of the shops this Black Friday, make sure you get there early to take advantage of the best deals. Popular items can sell out quickly, so it might be worth joining the morning queues to be first through the door.

  • Don’t assume the best deals are always on Friday

This year, even more brands are starting their Black Friday deals early, so it’s well worth checking prices throughout the week.  Although some items are discounted even further for Cyber Monday, if you see a deal you are happy with on, or before the Friday, it’s usually worth purchasing while the product is still in stock!

  • Prepare the night before

If you’re planning to shop online for Black Friday, you can help yourself by preparing the night before. When the discounts go live, some items can sell out in seconds and most websites begin to struggle due to the amount of traffic. A time saving tip is to make sure you have created online accounts with any of the retailers you might be planning to buy from on Black Friday, so that you aren’t held up registering on the day while others snatch up the deals. You can also add any items you want into your basket before the sales start, so that you can easily check whether anything specific has been discounted.
